In this blog post, we take a closer look at the VMC Sharpshoot'r a unique and highly versatile hardbait with bucktail that has become increasingly popular, especially when used with forward facing sonar, but which also performs extremely well in more traditional fishing situations.

What is the VMC Sharpshooter?

The VMC Sharpshooter is a hardbait equipped with a bucktail, designed to offer maximum visibility and adaptability underwater. On the back of the head, the lure features a screw system that allows you to attach any softbait you like. This makes it easy to customize the lure to your own fishing style, conditions and target fish.

In our webshop, we have already prepared several ready-made combinations, some of which are also shown in the video.

Although the Sharpshooter was designed with forward facing sonar in mind, it can just as effectively be fished in regular city waters, canals and lakes.

Smart design and rigging options

One of the standout features of the VMC Sharpshooter is the additional eye on the lure. This extra attachment point allows you to:

  • add extra weight to fish deeper or faster

  • attach an additional stinger for improved hook-up rates

These options make the Sharpshooter extremely flexible and adaptable to many different fishing scenarios.

VMC Sharpshooter specifications

The Sharpshooter’s specifications are well suited for targeting larger predatory fish:

  • Weight: 38 grams

  • Action: Slow sinking

  • Hook: Strong VMC treble hook, size 3/0

Once the Sharpshooter hits the water, the bucktail hairs expand, creating a large and highly visible profile underwater that helps draw attention from distance.

Why the Sharpshooter is so versatile

The real strength of the VMC Sharpshooter lies in its customizability. You can easily adjust the lure to match the situation you are fishing:

  • Large softbait + extra weight for a slow, bulky presentation

  • Smaller softbait for a faster and more compact setup

  • Additional treble or stinger for better hook-ups

  • Adjusting weight to perfectly control depth and retrieve speed

Thanks to the interchangeable trailer, one Sharpshooter can effectively replace multiple lures.

How to fish the VMC Sharpshooter

Fishing the Sharpshooter is straightforward, yet offers plenty of room for variation.

Shallow water

  • Cast out and fish it with a steady retrieve

Deeper lakes and large systems

  • Retrieve using long pulls

  • Pause the lure

  • Let it sink slowly

  • Repeat this sequence

These pauses are often when strikes occur.
