Let's take a closer look at two glide baits that have been getting a lot of attention lately: the SPRO KGB Chad Shad and the SPRO KGB Lil Guy.
A US swimbait classic meets SPRO
The SPRO KGB Chad Shad and the SPRO KGB Lil Guy are the result of a collaboration between the original KGB Swimbait developer from the USA and SPRO. Both lures are true glide style swimbaits, designed to combine ease of use with an action that consistently triggers predators.
What makes these baits stand out is how accessible they are. Whether you're an experienced swimbait angler or just starting out, both models are easy to fish and very forgiving, while still offering the kind of action that big predators respond to.
One bait, multiple seasons
One of the biggest strengths of the Chad Shad and the Lil Guy is how well they adapt to different seasons and fish moods. In winter you can slow everything down and fish them with long, controlled retrieves. In summer, when fish are more aggressive, you can speed things up and really make them react.
Depending on how you work the bait, you can give it a wide, lazy glide or a short, sharp cut. In the video we show exactly how those movements look, above and below the surface.

The two models are clearly designed with different predators in mind.

While we recommend fishing both on a baitcasting setup for maximum control, the Lil Guy can also be fished comfortably on a regular spinning setup, which makes it a great entry level glide bait.

Small details that make a difference
One of the nicest design features on both baits is the eye placement. However the lure turns, the eyes always seem to lock onto you. It is a small detail, but underwater it adds a lot of realism and presence.
Seeing the action underwater
In the video we included underwater footage as well as reel shot footage, to show exactly how the Chad Shad and the Lil Guy move through the water. That gives a clear picture of their glide, their sink and their reaction on the pause, which you can't always see from above the surface.
How to fish the KGB Chad Shad and Lil Guy
Fishing these glide baits is simple, but they really shine when you start mixing things up. Three effective ways to fish them:
- Slow retrieve: a steady retrieve creates a wide, natural glide. Depending on your speed the bait runs at around 0.5 to 1 metre, and SPRO lists a running depth of 3 to 4 feet, so about 1 to 1.2 metres. Perfect for covering water.
- Twitch retrieve: short twitches with the reel make the bait shoot sharply from left to right. Fish it slower in winter and speed it up in summer. When you pause, the bait sinks and reaches deeper layers.
- Fast burn: to trigger reaction bites, reel quickly for a few turns and then stop the bait completely. Very often the take comes exactly on that pause.
