Hispano Lures – Handmade Soft Swimbaits from Spain

Hispano Lures is a Spanish lure builder with no factory line behind it. Every bait is designed, poured, finished and checked in the brand's own workshop, one at a time. That is a slow way to build swimbaits, and it is the reason Hispano Lures has quietly become a name among European predator anglers who fish big soft swimbaits for pike, zander, perch and black bass.

One idea runs through the whole range: a large soft swimbait should swim on its own, float at rest, and survive more than a handful of sessions. Hispano Lures gets there with a floating body, a line-through rigging system and a detachable hook setup — a combination that took more than five years of development and testing before the first Polaris was released.

Hispano Lures Polaris 147 – 14.7 cm Floating Soft Swimbait

The Hispano Lures Polaris 147 measures 147 mm and weighs 37 g. Its paddle tail loads up from the first turn of the handle and rolls the whole body, giving you a substantial prey profile you can use to cover water fast. The line-through system lets you rig the treble on the back for open water or underneath the bait for a cleaner run over vegetation — the same lure, two presentations, no rebuilding.

The eye at the nose takes extra weight, so you can push the same bait into deeper layers or slow its rise on the pause. At 37 g it casts far enough to search wide flats and reach fish sitting well away from the bank or the boat. Available in Sugar, Bone, Spanish Shad, Isabelo, Cherry Flow and Gold Rush.

Hispano Lures Polaris 167 – 16.7 cm Floating Soft Swimbait

The Hispano Lures Polaris 167 is the same lure grown up: 167 mm and 51 g. Identical floating build, line-through system and detachable hooks, but with a bigger silhouette and a wider tail kick for the days when predators are locked onto large prey and a smaller bait gets looked at and ignored.

Those extra 14 g matter more than the number suggests. They buy you casting distance into a headwind, control on big open water, and the depth to work a drifting boat over deeper structure. Available in Spanish Shad, Isabelo, Gold Rush, Bleeder Shad, Mango Perch and Magic.

Line-Through System and Detachable Hooks

Both Polaris models are built around a line-through construction: your leader runs straight through the body and the treble hangs outside it, on the back for open water or under the belly when you need to stay clean over weed. Hook a fish and the body slides up the leader instead of becoming a lever — the soft plastic leaves the fight early, and a good pike does far less damage to it.

The hooks come off completely, so you can strip a bait down, swap a bent treble, or store it flat without points buried in the plastic. On a handmade swimbait that is not a detail. It is the difference between a lure that lasts a season and one that lasts several.

How to Fish a Floating Soft Swimbait

Buoyancy opens up presentations a sinking bait simply cannot offer. Wind it steadily and the Polaris swims just under the surface with a broad, rolling tail. Stop, and it climbs slowly back up instead of dropping into the salad — which makes it one of the very few big baits you can fish with confidence over shallow vegetation, lily pads and submerged timber.

Clip weight to the front eye and the same lure turns into a slow-rising bait for deeper edges: walk it down a drop-off, pause it above structure, and let the rise do the triggering. A floating body with adjustable weight is what puts the Polaris equally at home on a shallow spring pike water and on a deep summer reservoir.

Which Polaris Size Should You Choose

Start with the Polaris 147 if you want one size that does everything. At 14.7 cm it covers pike, zander, big perch and black bass, and it fishes comfortably on a normal predator setup.

Move up to the Polaris 167 when you are hunting a better class of fish, when the natural prey in your water is large, or when wind and distance are working against you. It asks for a heavier rod, and it pays you back with a profile that selects for the fish you came for.
