Terminal tackle for predator fishing
Terminal tackle is everything between your main line and the fish: jig heads, hooks, rigs, stingers, leaders, weights, snaps and the parts that hold a rig together. It decides how your lure swims, how much of a bite reaches your hand, and whether the hook holds when a pike starts head-shaking. Everything here is picked for pike, zander and perch in European water, for anglers who build a rig around the conditions.
Jig heads for softbaits
Jig heads set the swimming angle, the fall speed and the hook-up rate of every softbait. The jig head range covers round heads, screw-in heads and system heads: BKK Hyperlatch Round Jig Hooks, VMC Bullet Jig, Toppies tungsten heads, Capt'n Greenfin round and elephant heads and the Fiiish Black Minnow system in N2, N2.5 and N3. Tungsten transmits more of the bottom than lead at the same weight, which counts over hard structure.
What a dart jig does, and how to fish it
A dart jig is shaped to make a softbait break out sideways instead of lifting straight up. That unpredictable escape triggers cautious fish, and it works best on zander and perch in clear or pressured water where a straight vertical presentation gets ignored. Fish it with short taps of the rod tip and a pause: the bait shoots to one side, then settles like a prey fish out of nerve. Most bites come on the drop. The Toppies Tungsten Dart Jig, the VMC Dart Jig and the Capt'n Greenfin dart heads all fish this way.
Hooks for predator fishing and softbaits
A hook is the one component with no backup. The hooks and rigs section runs from trebles to specialised softbait patterns:
• Trebles and assists — BKK Spear-21 SS and Armorpoint Hyperlatch-71 SS, plus VMC UV Hooks
• Softbait singles — BKK Predator WG, BKK IMP, VMC Cheboo offset and VMC 7316 Texan Strong Wide Gap
• Finesse — BKK and VMC dropshot hooks, Gamakatsu Wacky Worm 318 and G-Finesse Weedless Wacky
A softbait hook does two jobs at once: it leaves the tail action untouched and still finds purchase on a short strike. Match the gap to the body of the bait, not to the fish.
Rigs and stingers for pike
Pike take a big softbait from behind as often as head-on, and a single jig hook misses those bites. A stinger puts hook points where the fish makes contact. The rigs and stingers range includes the VMC Pike Chain Rig and its UV version, the VMC Belly Pike Rig for baits fished with the trebles under the body, and the BKK BB Trigger-21 UVO Stinger Rig. Refill screws let you rebuild a rig on the water.
Lines and leaders
Nothing else in the setup is worth much if the leader fails. Lines and leaders covers Sufix braid — x8, Nanobraid and Performance G-Core — plus Sufix Advance and Invisiline fluorocarbon, Stroft FC2 and Stroft NiTi Polywire. Fluorocarbon is the quiet choice for zander and perch; pike teeth call for titanium or 7x7 wire, whatever the clarity says.
Ready-made and modular leaders
Not everybody wants to tie leaders at the bank. The Stroft Spool Leader System Ready To Fish keeps pre-tied leaders wound, tangle-free and ready to clip on, with Stroft leader rings and cutter rings to finish them. VMC Titanium leaders come matched to lure type — Twitch, Crank, Jerk, Swim and Pike — and the BKK 7x7 Wire Leader HD handles the biggest baits. VMC Knotable Titanium is there if you build your own.
Weights for precise presentation
Weight is how you control depth, sink rate and the spot a bait lands in. The weights range covers Toppies tungsten and brass bullet weights, drop shot rounds and sticks, nail sinkers, VMC Cheburashka weights and Green Bass lead-free weights where lead is not permitted. Rapala Screw Diver System weights and Swimbait Republic Glideway stickers rebalance a lure instead of replacing it.
Small tackle that decides the day
Clips, snaps, split rings and screws look like the least important things in the box until one lets go. The small tackle section carries VMC Switch, Crank Bait and Stainless Crosslock snaps, VMC Heavy Duty Split Rings, BKK and Savage Gear stinger screws, and Rapala split ring pliers. With the right snap, a lure change takes seconds.
Spare parts for lures and rigs
Big swimbaits and glidebaits are worth repairing. Spare parts covers DRT Klash and Tiny Klash tails and lips, Nays TRN fishtails and clip weights, Kaesu OHIRA tails and lips, Madotachi plates and hooks, and Fiiish spare bodies with Fiiish the Glue. Changing a tail changes the action too, so keep spares in more than one shape.
Buy terminal tackle at Charlie's Fishing
Charlie's Fishing is a specialist predator webshop based in the Netherlands, shipping across Europe and beyond. The range is deliberately narrow: BKK, VMC, Stroft, Toppies, Fiiish, Rapala, Gamakatsu, Green Bass and a few smaller Japanese makers, all fished in European water before it goes on the site. Work through the category above and build the rig you want. If you are unsure which jig head, hook or leader fits your technique, ask us.
