Dobb Daddy Spin Fly – Pike Fly for Spinning Tackle, 28 cm / 28 g

The Dobb Daddy Spin Fly is a pike fly you cast with a normal spinning rod. Developed by Niklas Holmér at Fly-Dressing in Sweden, it combines a 15 g casting plug with a fly-style hook rig, so you get the pulsating, suspending movement of a big pike streamer without a fly rod. On a slow retrieve the fly hangs almost weightless in the water, breathes on the pause and gives a following pike plenty of time to take it.

The whole system is threaded onto the leader: plug, cone head and hook rig sit in line, so you can swap parts, tune the weight and adapt the rig to your own setup. With the cone head and hook rig fitted it weighs around 28 g, enough for controlled distance and accurate casts along weed edges, reed beds and shallow bays, while the near-neutral buoyancy keeps it high in the water.

Fish it with a slow, steady wind, long pauses and small twitches of the rod tip. The fly keeps working when it stops, which makes it a strong choice for pressured pike in clear water and for the cold months when fish will not chase a fast lure.
