Pike, zander and perch

Pike are ambush hunters that react to a big profile: softbaits of 12 to 25 cm, glidebaits, bucktails and jerkbaits. Always fish them on a wire or titanium trace. See Pike Softbaits, Pike Hardbaits and Mouse & Bucktail Lures.

Zander often hunt close to the bottom and are most active in low light, so shads and pintails of 7 to 12 cm on a jighead, vibration baits and glidebaits are the core of the range. See Zander and Perch Softbaits, Zander Glidebaits, Vibration Baits and Jigheads.

Perch hunt in groups and react to flash and vibration. Finesse softbaits of 5 to 8 cm for the drop shot and Ned rig, small crankbaits and blade baits are the classics. See Ned's & Worms, V-Tails & Pintails and Crankbaits & Twitchbaits.

Sea bass on the coast

Seabass hunt where waves and current push baitfish together, so the lures have to cast far and swim stable: long-casting minnows and pencils, weedless softbaits and surface lures. Trout, asp and chub

Trout want small, natural lures on light tackle: spoons, small crankbaits and finesse softbaits. Asp hunt fast in open water on big rivers, so pencils, spoons and casting jigs that cast far and can be retrieved quickly work best. Chub take insects and small fish, often near the surface, so small crankbaits and insect imitations are the lures to try.

Catfish, black bass and pelagic fishing

Catfish take big, slow lures that push water: XL softbaits, eels and swimbaits on strong hooks and leaders. For Black Bass we stock Japanese softbaits, topwaters and crankbaits for the Texas rig, wacky rig and drop shot. Pelagic fishing with live sonar uses V-tails, shads and bucktails for pike, zander and catfish suspended in open water.

Which predatory fish do you have lures for?

Pike, zander, perch, sea bass, trout, asp, chub, wels catfish and black bass, plus lures for pelagic fishing with live sonar. Each species has its own page with the lures and advice that fit it.

Which lure size for which species?

As a starting point: 5 to 8 cm for perch, 7 to 12 cm for zander, 10 to 15 cm for sea bass and 12 to 25 cm for pike. Wels catfish take even bigger baits. Go smaller in clear or cold water, and bigger when the fish are active or the water is coloured.

Can one lure catch several species?

Yes. A shad of about 7 to 10 cm on a jighead catches perch, zander and pike, and a small crankbait works for perch, trout and chub. For big pike, wels catfish and sea bass it pays to choose lures made for that fish.
