How to Fish Savage Gear Line Thru Lures and the Glide Roach

Match the retrieve to how the fish are behaving — these lures reward a bit of thought about pace.

Slow glide retrieve. Cast, let the lure sink, then retrieve slowly with the occasional tap of the rod tip. That produces wide side-to-side glides that mimic an injured baitfish drifting through the water. Excellent in cold water and on pressured predators.

Twitch and pause. Short twitches with pauses in between. The Glide Roach darts left and right, then sinks slowly on the pause — which is where most bites come. Perfect in clear water and on fish that follow without committing.

Steady retrieve. A smooth, even retrieve gives a subtle tail kick and a natural swimming motion. Ideal when fish are actively feeding or when you want to cover water quickly.

Jerking. Sharper rod movements make the lure dart aggressively, imitating a fleeing prey fish. This works well when pike are hunting hard and reacting to fast-moving targets.

Trolling. The 23 cm version is a strong trolling lure: it tracks straight, holds a stable depth and keeps that enticing glide for zander and pike in deeper water.

Around structure. Because these lures glide and settle naturally, they are at home along weed edges, drop-offs, bridges, canal walls and standing timber.
