DRT at Charlie's Fishing: Klash jointed swimbaits, Cramp Shad softbaits and tuning parts
DRT stands for Division Rebel Tackles, the Japanese big bait brand of designer Tomoya Shirakawa, based at Lake Biwa. DRT made its name with the Klash 9, a jointed swimbait with a removable lip and interchangeable tails, so one lure can be fished as a crankbait, in deadwalk style or as a glidebait. The smaller Tiny Klash followed, and DRT also makes softbaits and spare lips and tails to tune the action. At Charlie's Fishing we stock the DRT Klash 9 Low, the Tiny Klash Low, the three-section Klash Ghost, the Cramp Shad and Cramp Shad FAT softbaits, and the lips and tails for the Klash family. Below you find what each one is for.
DRT Klash 9 Low: the original modular swimbait
The DRT Klash 9 Low is a 9 inch (22.9 cm), 125 g jointed ABS swimbait with Owner 1/0 trebles. Straight out of the box you fish it like a large crankbait or in deadwalk style. Remove the lip and flip the tail to mode B and it becomes a glidebait that you work with the rod or reel, slowly along edges and hotspots or fast and sharp over weed beds. With the optional lips and tails the action changes again, in shallow or deeper water and for lazy or active fish. In Europe it is a big bait for pike and zander. More in Swimbaits & Glidebaits and Pike Hardbaits.
DRT Tiny Klash Low: the same system in a smaller size
The DRT Tiny Klash Low (16.8 cm, 56 g, Owner ST-46 trebles #1 front and #2 rear) works like its bigger brother. With the lip and the V-tail in mode A you crank it or fish it stop and go, you can deadwalk it, and without the lip and with the tail in mode B (points facing down) it glides just under the surface like a fleeing baitfish. It is a handy size for zander and medium pike, and for black bass. See all Zander Glidebaits.
DRT Klash Ghost: the big three-section glidebait
The DRT Klash Ghost carries the Klash name but swims differently. Its three-section body makes a smooth, tight S-curve at the slightest pull, and the joint pads in the box let you set it up for wide glides or for sharp, erratic dead walks. You fish it with or without the lip. It is 33 cm long (37 cm with the V-tail), weighs 235 g and is low floating, and swivel hook hangers stop a fish from twisting off in the fight. A big silhouette for big pike.
DRT Cramp Shad and Cramp Shad FAT: softbaits with a combined tail
The Cramp Shad combines a small V-tail with a very high-frequency paddle tail, for a natural, subtle swimming action like a small baitfish. The DRT Cramp Shad (4.5 inch, 11 cm, 10 g, 5 per pack) has a slim body for perch and zander, jigged or retrieved slowly on a light jig head, weightless or on a weighted offset hook. The DRT Cramp Shad FAT (11 cm, 19 g, 4 per pack) has a broader, flatter body and a different salt content. On a weightless offset hook (around 4/0) you fish it in deadwalk or glide style like a Tiny Klash, and rigged upside down, belly up, it makes a wide S-curve even on a steady retrieve. More in Zander and Perch Softbaits, Jigheads and Hooks and Rigs.
DRT lips and tails: tune your Klash
The DRT Klash 9 Lips come two per pack in silicone. The Wide Lip and Roll Lip make the Klash 9 dive deeper and push more water, and the Spare Lip gives less side to side movement in the joint and more roll; fitted backwards it dives deeper and breaks out more to the sides. The DRT Tiny Klash Lips (two per pack) come as Short, Spare, Wide/Deep, YTMK and Yabase lips: the Wide Lip runs deeper and turns the Tiny Klash into a wakebait when fitted upside down, the Short Lip runs a little shallower over weed beds, and the YTMK Lip adds roll. The DRT Tiny Klash V-Tail gives a little more roll on a steady retrieve, and when deadwalking the front of the lure sways while the bait hardly moves forward in the strike zone. The DRT Klash and Tiny Klash Spare Tail / Transfer Tail, for the Klash 9 or the Tiny Klash, keeps the action stable at high speed. See all Spare Parts.
