Sufix at Charlie's Fishing: braided lines and fluorocarbon for predator fishing

Sufix is a fishing line brand that was built up by the Taiwanese line maker Yao I and has been part of the Rapala VMC group since 2008, the same group behind Rapala and VMC. After testing many lines over the years, Sufix is the line we use and recommend ourselves. At Charlie's Fishing we stock four Sufix lines for perch, zander, pike and sea bass: the Sufix 131 G-Core and x8 braids, the ultra thin NanoBraid, and Advance and Invisiline fluorocarbon. Sufix 131 G-Core: the 13-carrier braid

The Sufix Performance G-Core 131 Braid is built from 13 fibres: 12 braided HMPE fibres around a single GORE Performance Fibre in the core. That core makes the line very round and solid, so there is no hollow centre for water to enter, it casts further and quieter, and knots hold better because more fibres sit in the knot. It is great for casting and jigging when you want a relatively thin line. You get 150 metres in Neon Chartreuse, from 0.104 mm (5.4 kg) to 0.33 mm (18.2 kg). Our tip: 0.104 to 0.128 mm for finesse perch, 0.148 to 0.205 mm for zander and all round predator fishing, 0.235 to 0.33 mm for pike and heavy lures. More in Lines and Leaders.

Sufix x8: the smooth all round braid

The Sufix x8 braid is a round, silky Japanese style braid with an 8-carrier construction of thin HMPE fibres. R8 Precision Braiding with a high tension weave gives it a consistent diameter, low friction through the rod guides and long, quiet casts, on both spinning and baitcasting reels. It comes on 150 metre spools in green. Our tip: 0.104 mm (5.0 kg) for perch and trout, 0.128 mm (6.9 kg) for zander and sea bass, 0.205 mm (17.5 kg) for pike with light to medium lures, and 0.235 mm (20 kg) for big pike with heavy lures or on a heavy baitcaster setup.

Sufix NanoBraid: ultra thin braid for UL and finesse

The Sufix Nanobraid is an ultra thin, low stretch braid for UL spinning, finesse, drop shot and light jigging. The small diameter gives you direct contact with light lures and makes subtle bites easy to feel, while the smooth, round profile helps your casting distance and runs easily through the guides. It works in fresh and salt water and is the line for perch and trout on light jig heads and small hardbaits. See Perch and Trout.

Sufix Advance and Invisiline: fluorocarbon leader material

The Sufix Invisiline Fluorocarbon is 100% fluorocarbon leader material with high abrasion resistance and shock absorption. It is virtually invisible in water, sinks four times faster than standard nylon and has very low stretch. It comes in 50 metres of 0.27 mm (6.1 kg), our choice for perch, and 0.33 mm (8.6 kg), our choice for zander. The Sufix Advance Fluorocarbon is made with Gel Phase Technology for clarity, strength and abrasion resistance, with G2 Precision Winding against line memory. We stock it in 0.405 mm (9.2 kg), 50 metres, and recommend it for sea bass and for fishing close to lots of obstacles. For pike, add a wire or titanium trace, because fluorocarbon is not bite proof. Which Sufix line for which situation

• Finesse perch and trout on light jig heads or drop shot: NanoBraid, or 131 G-Core and x8 in 0.104 mm.
• Zander with softbaits on a jig head: 131 G-Core 0.148 to 0.205 mm or x8 0.128 mm, with an Invisiline 0.33 mm leader.
• Pike with heavy lures or on a baitcaster: 131 G-Core 0.235 to 0.33 mm or x8 0.205 to 0.235 mm, with a wire or titanium trace.
• Sea bass and fishing around rocks and obstacles: x8 0.128 mm with Advance 0.405 mm.
