Japanese Big Baits, Joint Baits and Spinnerbaits for Predator Fishing

Discover Kaesu JDM Hardbaits at Charlie’s Fishing: a focused collection of Japanese predator lures built for anglers who want technical action, strong presence and a different trigger than standard European hardbaits. This collection features the KRK 165, KRK 205, OHIRA and RANKA: four specialist Kaesu lures for big bait fishing, cranking, shallow water work, weed edges, structure fishing and reaction-style predator fishing.

Kaesu is developed by MIX Ltd. in Osaka, Japan, where the brand started in 2004 under Makoto Yanagihara. The company combines lure design with advanced manufacturing techniques such as laser processing, resin work, metal processing, 3D design and 5-axis water jet processing, giving these lures a true Japanese Domestic Market character.

KRK 165 and KRK 205 Big Baits

The Kaesu KRK range is made for anglers who want a big bait that can do more than simply swim in a straight line. Both the KRK 165 and KRK 205 use Kaesu’s Reload Weight System, allowing anglers to adjust buoyancy and fish different ranges from surface work to deeper presentations. The KRK 165 measures 165mm and weighs 49–57g, while the KRK 205 measures 205mm and weighs 86–98g.

Use the KRK when you want a lure that can slide, wake, dart, swim in an S-shape or be worked with sharp rod input around weed edges, shallow flats, drop-offs and open water. The KRK 165 is the more compact option for pressured water or slightly lighter big bait setups, while the KRK 205 brings a larger profile for targeting serious pike, big bass and other large predators.

OHIRA Cranking Joint Bait

The Kaesu OHIRA is a 165mm floating joint bait designed around medium-sized big bait cranking. Its high-profile, flat-sided body creates a strong wobbling action without excessive rolling, while the joint and elastomer tail add extra movement during pauses, rises and retrieve changes. Kaesu lists the OHIRA at 42–49g, fitted with adjustable tungsten weight balls and float balls for fine-tuning buoyancy.

This is the lure to pick when you want to cover water with a bigger crank-style presentation. Fish it over shallow structure, along weed lines, around banks, over submerged cover or through open lanes where a strong silhouette and controlled wobble can pull fish from distance. With the right weight setting, OHIRA can be tuned for shallow work or cranked down to cover deeper water up to around 2.8 metres.

RANKA Spinnerbait

The Kaesu RANKA is a compact multi-role spinnerbait with an adjustable weight system and Kaesu’s Knocking Blade System. It can be fished as a 3/8oz spinnerbait or converted to 1/2oz with the included 1/8oz tungsten weight, making it useful across different casting distances, retrieve speeds and water depths.

RANKA is especially interesting for predator anglers fishing around weed, banks, stained water, structure and mid-water zones where vibration, flash and sudden action changes can trigger bites. The Knocking Blade System can be switched on for irregular blade contact and speed variation, or switched off for a more standard spinnerbait action when slow rolling near bottom or fishing through vegetation.

Which Kaesu Lure Should You Choose?

Choose the KRK 165 when you want a more manageable big bait with strong versatility and a compact profile. Choose the KRK 205 when you want maximum presence, topwater potential and a larger big bait for hunting bigger predators. Pick the OHIRA when you want a flat-sided joint bait for cranking, pausing and covering structured water with a strong wobble. Go for the RANKA when you need a spinnerbait with vibration, flash and adjustable action for weed, stained water and reaction fishing.

Together, these four Kaesu models form a tight but highly capable JDM hardbait selection for anglers who want to fish differently. Instead of filling the box with generic lures, this collection focuses on technical Japanese designs that each bring a clear purpose on the water.
